WebsiteGecko is an independent hosting review site for Europeans who search in English. We're a small team, part of 31 Ventures (registered in the Netherlands, KVK 81019556), and we've been reviewing hosting providers since 2020.
We started because most hosting reviews are glorified ads. Providers pay for top spots, reviewers copy each other's lists, and nobody actually tests anything. We wanted to do better.
We buy our own hosting accounts with our own money. Then we install identical test websites and monitor them for at least 30 days before publishing any review.
We run automated PageSpeed Insights tests multiple times per day across all providers. This gives us real performance data over time — not a single snapshot that could be cherry-picked.
We monitor every provider at 1-minute intervals, 24/7. Every second of downtime is tracked and factored into our reviews.
We contact each provider's support team at least 12 times over 4 weeks — via chat, email, and phone where available. We test response times, accuracy, and helpfulness.
We review server locations, data processing agreements, GDPR compliance, and company ownership structure. Especially important for European users.
WebsiteGecko earns affiliate commissions when you sign up for hosting through our links. You pay the same price either way — the commission comes from the provider, not from you.
This is how we fund our testing. But it never affects our rankings. If a provider pays higher commissions but performs worse in our tests, they rank lower. Period.
We clearly label all affiliate links. You always know when a link earns us a commission.
No provider has ever paid for a higher ranking on WebsiteGecko. No provider has ever seen a review before publication. No provider has editorial input on our content.
If we test a provider and they're bad, we say so. If a provider improves, we update our review. Our recommendations are based on data, not relationships.
